Maker unknown, Geneva Circa 1860. 4” x 2 1/2” (10 x 6 cm). Two movements. Rich bird song. A rectangular-shaped wooden box is decorated with an oil-painted scene of the countryside with trees, paths, flowers, statue in ruins, and a woman and man posed amidst the scene. The box sides are black lacquered with floral decorations. The top of the case has a centered oval silver lid with lightly embossed design of a bird with flowers, that opens to reveal a brightly-feathered bird resting on a silver cutwork frame with a silver bird design in the center. Movements: Sings, movements of the bird’s body and tail.
