Solid domed composition or paper mache sculpted socket head with deeply-defined facial features,defined small eye sockets with painted brown eyes,incised upper eyeliner,lightly-painted brows,accented nostrils,closed mouth with defined space between the lips,well-sculpted ears,brunette mohair wig in coiled braids,composition and wooden ball-jointed body,well-costumed. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: II. Comments: Marion Kaulitz,circa 1909 who is credited with inspiring the German art character reform movement of that era,insisting that dolls should represent the faces of real children,this example appears almost as a solemn-faced sister to the smiling-face model,Lot 227 of the January 2011 auction "Dolls in the House at the Top of the Hill". Value Points: compelling expression on the very rare doll enhanced by finest sculpting especially around the mouth,with defined plump dimpled chin,beautiful painting,original body and body finish,very choice antique costume.
