Bisque socket head with very full cheeks and angular pointy-tip nose, blue glass sleep eyes, dark eyeliner, painted dark curly lashes, rose-blushed eye shadow, brush-stroked and multi-feathered brows, accented eye corners and nostrils, closed mouth with defined space between the shaded and outlined lips, blonde mohair wig over plaster pate, early composition and wooden fully-jointed body with straight wrists, wearing antique sailor costume, undergarments, stockings, black leather shoes, grand sailor cap. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 14. Comments: Kestner, circa 1885, the model is known as the "A.T. Kestner" for its resemblance to the French A.T. bebe of the same era, whose market the doll attempted to capture. Value Points: a rare large size of the desirable and rarely-found model, with lovely bisque having a delicate luminous patina, superb sculpting with "first-from-the-mold" definition, wonderful antique costume. Ex-June Ellen Lane collection. The signature doll was featured for several years on a Theriault's shopping bag, stationery and other ephemera, and appears on Theriault's home page website.

Bisque socket head with light brown ("cafe-au-lait") complexion depicting a startled child, perfectly-oval shaped face, deep amber brown paperweight inset eyes, thick black eyeliner and painted curly lashes, black brushstroked brows, accented nostrils of rounded tip nose, closed mouth modeled wide-open as though in astonishment, sculpted upper teeth, defined tongue, defined rounded chin, separately-modeled applied ears, French brown composition and wooden fully-jointed body, antique red silk Jumeau dress with embroidered tulle trim, matching wire-brimmed bonnet, undergarments, red stockings, red kidskin shoes with silk rosettes signed "Bebe Jumeau Depose 12". Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 218 11. Comments: Emile Jumeau, circa 1892, from the firm's 200 art character series depicting children with vibrant and highly-characterized features. Value Points: flawless bisque and complexion, finest quality of painting, original body and body finish, costume appears original. Only a few examples of the 218 model were ever made, and this is the only existing example known of the brown-complexioned 218 bebe.
