Early Continental Wooden Doll with Rare Dowel-Jointed Nodding Head

14" (36 cm.) Carved wooden head with unusual dowel-jointed neck which allows the head to nod forward or upright, sculpted facial features, brown painted tiny downcast eyes, closed mouth, blushed cheeks and chin, white soft flannel hair under original coiffe, armature padded body with carved wooden lower legs and forearms. Condition: good, original finish albeit some wear on chin, throat, and nose. Comments: Continental, early 19th century.
