One of the rarest markings of early period bebes by Emile Jumeau is this model having incised block word "Jumeau" enclosed in cartouche frame (see photo insert). This example has pressed bisque socket head with rounded facial modelling, very full lower cheeks and defined chin, brown glass enamel inset eyes, faintly painted lashes, widely arched feathered brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, closed mouth with shaded and accented lips, pierced ears, blonde mohair wig over cork pate, early wooden button attachment to eight-loose-ball-jointed composition and wooden body with straight wrists. The doll wears antique costume comprising cotton dress with aqua silk pleated panel, maroon buttons, pleated skirt, antique undergarments, knit stockings, leather shoes, silk bonnet. Signed "JUMEAU" in block letters and "1". Emile Jumeau, circa 1878. 12" (30 cm).
