Bisque socket head,deep blue glass paperweight inset eyes,dark eyeliner,lushly-painted lashes,brush-stroked brows,rose blushed eye shadow,accented nostrils and eye corners,closed mouth with richly-shaded lips,pierced ears,new brunette human hair wig over cork pate,French composition and wooden fully-jointed body with straight wrists. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Depose Tete Jumeau Bte SGDG 10 (head,and artist checkmarks) Jumeau Medaille d'Or Paris (body stamp). Comments: Emile Jumeau,circa 1885. Value Points: very beautiful painting,the bebe wears elaborate folklore costume including a silver necklace with embossed design of a grape cluster,on silver chain,and has an attached note indicating "provincial costume of Vannes France,original grape necklace and official doll of the wine tastes of Vannes",with blue ribbon award from 1980 doll convention.
36" (91 cm.) Standing upon a wooden platform which contains the movement motor,is a plump hearty man with sculpted moustache,brown glass inset eyes with mohair lashes,bald pate which is covered by his original tall paper mache hat with insignia,paper mache legs with painted leggings and black shoes,and paper mache arms with pointing finger on his left hand,and his right hand curled to hold the silver bell. The man is designed with a metal hinge on torso; thus when activated (electric motor),he tips forward and back,as though leaning into his work,his pointing finger designed to tap the store window in which he would he placed to draw attention,and his right hand ringing the bell. Condition: generally excellent,European wiring,mechanism functions well. Comments: German,late 19th century,the rare figure was designed as an attention getter in display windows of early 20th century Berlin stores. He wears his original felt official uniform of the Berlin town-crier who served the purposes of guarding the streets,lighting the gas lamps,and crying out at each hour "all is well". The figure was acquired by Jurgen and Marianne Cieslik during the 1980s and served as an icon for their important Puppenmagasin doll journal for nearly two decades. Value Points: great character modeling and attention-getting action with historic Berlin background.

Composition socket head with sculpted hair in short side-parted bobbed curls that are brushed behind her defined ears,painted complexion and facial features,the blue eyes with decorative glaze on the black pupils lending a glass-like look,eye shadow,painted eyeliner and brows,closed mouth with impressed dimples at each lip corner,composition and wooden ball-jointed body,wearing original linen-like uniform,undergarments,shoes,stockings. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: maker unknown,the hair is in the style of 1930s. Value Points: rare mystery doll with most charming expression and artistic detail of painting.
8" (20 cm.) The velvet rabbit is cream-colored with air-brush brown spots,pink-lined ears,black shoe-button eyes with red felt edging,shaped nose,stitched mouth,with original green neck ribbon and bell. Excellent condition,especially good coloring. Germany,Steiff,with button in ear,circa 1910.

13" (33 cm.) The firmly-stuffed wool felt giraffe with air-brushed brown giraffe spots has elaborate stitching,black shoe-button eyes,stitched-on ears,tail,short brown mane,and is posed on cast iron spoked-wheel base. Excellent condition. Germany,Steiff,the model was made from 1901-1909 only.
6 1/2" (17 cm.) l. of cushion. The velvet lion with air-brushed detail has black shoe-button eyes,lush mohair mane and tail tip,and is posed reclining on a green velvet cushion with cord braid. Excellent condition with vibrant color retained. Germany,Steiff,circa 1915.
