French Bisque Double-Faced Bebe by Leon Casimir Bru in Petite Size

11" (28 cm.) Bisque swivel head on kid-edged bisque shoulderplate with an alternate face on two sides of the head which can be alternately revealed by pivoting the head; both faces have painted blue eyes and facial features, and a blonde lambswool wig covers the head crown. One face reveals a cheerful-faced child with beautifully-painted lashes and brows, closed mouth modeled as though open with two rows of tiny sculpted teeth; the other face reveals a rosy-faced crying child with squinting eyes and modeled frown lines. On handmade cloth body with original bisque hands. Condition: head is excellent, chip at back corner of shoulderplate, finger tips chipped, body is not original. Comments: Leon Casimir Bru, circa 1880. Value Points: rare model especially in this petite size, excellent bisque and painting, wearing fine antique pique costume with bebe brooch and silver rattle.
