French Mechanical Music Vignette "The Busy Seaside Village"

20" (51 cm.) h. 17"w. Presented under a glass dome on ebony base is a paper mache structured village with waterwheel, windmill, village buildings and more; the dome is painted on the inside to represent a background to the scene. When string at the side is pulled, the waterwheel turns, the windmill turns, and the ship in the harbor tips side to side as though buffeting in the wind, while two tunes play. Excellent condition, music is strong and pleasing. French, circa 1875.
