German Bisque Portrait of Uncle Sam by Dressel in Original Costume

Bisque socket head with highly characterized facial sculpture of kindly old gentleman, angular face with prominent nose, cheek bones and jaw, blue glass inset eyes, very thick sculpted grey brows, closed mouth, beaming smile, incised and highlighted age wrinkles, white mohair wig and beard, Sonneberg composition and wooden fully-jointed body, wearing factory-original classic Uncle Sam costume. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: S 1 Germany. Comments: Cuno and Otto Dressel, circa 1895, from their series of American historical figures. Value Points: wonderful and unique sculpture of the American symbolic figure, "Uncle Sam", based upon the Thomas Nast drawings.
