14" (36 cm.) h. x 13"w. x 8"d. The rich mahogany slant front desk with two pencil drawers and two full width drawers is decorated with inlay marquetry borders on drop front and drawers, and with an oval hand-painted panel of cherub in country scene surrounded by a garland of Flowers. The desk top has another handpainted arrangement of flutes and tambourines. Excellent condition, missing one small wooden piece on right front foot, and 1 1/2" piece of missing marquetry border. English, mid-1800s, superb workmanship and design enhanced by finest woods and hand-painting.

Of finest white porcelain with hand-painted designs of wildflower sprays and colorful butterflies, and with gilt edging, the service for four comprises six large dinner plates, six smaller plates, six scalloped rim dessert plates, oval and round platters, four lidded tureens in various sizes, two footed bowls, one footed fruit bowl, and relish dish, along with four napkin rings, four forks, four spoons, ladle, two glass relish dishes, four goblets and two decanters, each tied into the box with original rose silk bows. Along with four linen napkins with woven butterfly design. The wooden box has floral-lithographed paper cover with gilt edging and hinges open to a multi-tiered arrangement with pink paper shelving and embossed gilt paper edging. French, circa 1880, the superb state of preservation is enhanced by the luxury origin of the presentation, and wonderful "butterfly" theme.
