Standing upon a velvet covered base is a bisque-head doll with brown glass paperweight inset eyes, dark eyeliner, painted lashes, brushstroked brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth, pierced ears, blonde mohair wig over cork pate, carton torso and legs, bisque lower arms, in rose silk costume. With torso-attached domed-lid wicker basket. When wound and lever released, the girl turns her head side to side, nods, and alternately lifts the lid of domed basket to reveal a feathered bird which flits side to side, and then lifts her right arm to sniff the floral bouquet. Condition: generally excellent, mechanism functions well. Marks: Bte SGDG Tete Jumeau. Comments: Leopold Lambert, circa 1890. Value Points: charming automaton highlighted by beautiful dramatic large brown eyes.

13" (33 cm.) doll. 19" x 15" box. Presented within original presentation box is a bisque head character doll with fully-jointed composition body, along with two alternate heads and costumes able to be assembled with the body. The heads include 233 with brown glass eyes, painted hair, crying expression with closed mouth; 235 with blue glass eyes, auburn flocked hair, laughing expression on closed mouth with two upper beaded teeth; and 237 with blue glass eyes, light brown flocked hair, slightly-parted lips with row of porcelain teeth. Condition: generally excellent, unplayed with. Comments: SFBJ, circa 1912, the rare multi-head series was designed to allow a child to change the doll's head, according to the play at hand, and was likely inspired by the series of multi-head character dolls offered by German firms such as Kestner at this time. The set was presented in the 1912 SFBJ catalog. Value Points: very rare-to-find, likely few were ever created, this example with original costumes and beautiful state of preservation, including paper box lid with three-language description on inside lid indicating the set was designed for France, Germany, England, and America, and with instructions for easily changing the head.

Mounted upon original twill-covered base is a bisque bust of a laughing child with blonde sculpted hair having well-defined forelock curl, intaglio blue eyes, black and grey incised eyeliner, painted lower lashes, single-stroke brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth with laughing expression, modeled tongue tip, impressed dimples at lip corners and cheeks. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: SFBJ, model 235 from their art character series, inspired by the French storybook character "Jean Qui Rit" (John who laughs). Value Points: rare character with especially fine quality of sculpting and bisque, impressed dimples at eye corners and mouth.
