The three-sided open-front shop with original gilt-accented black finish, features windows on each side wall which flank shelving on the entire back wall offering a variety of niches and display area. There is a free-standing counter, a mirrored cabinet and a side wall-mounted shelf which match the back shelving, along with wall mirrors and an upholstered seating area with upholstered chairs and matching table. The shop has more than 25 miniature hats, various hat forms, hat accessories and is peopled by three bisque dolls. Miniature calling cards on the counter read "Louise Gallagher's Beauty Salon". Overall excellent. Germany, for the American market, circa 1900.

Each is waist-up porcelain figure of adult lady with slender elongated face and torso in the flapper manner, including lady with blue cloche holding a compact and powder puff; lady in lavender wide-brimmed bonnet and matching tunic, holding a bouquet of flowers; and lady in lavender cloche with purple brim, lavender tunic and painted bracelets. 12" (30 cm.) doll. Poured wax head with slender face posed in angular manner, painted facial features, brunette mohair wig, very slender elongated body with padded armature allowing stylish pose, painted shoes, posed on original velvet cover stand. Condition: very good overall, some light silk frailty. Comments: French, circa 1912, Mesdames Lafitte and Desirat designed a series of dolls to illustrate contemporary fashion of the early 20th century. Value Points: original fashionable red velvet walking suit with matching muff and collar, kidskin purse. Along with a red velvet framed wall mirror decorated with elaborate gilt ormolu, with brass gilt label on reverse "Patented March 12 1901".

20" (51 cm.) Standing upon a velvet covered base with four wooden ball feet is a bisque head doll with brown glass paperweight inset eyes, painted lashes, brushstroked brows, accented nostrils, slightly-parted lips, auburn mohair wig, carton torso and legs, composition lower arms, wearing factory original chef's costume comprising ivory satin jacket, velvet pants, black shoes, cotton chef cap, silk bow tie, and holding a "skillet fiddle" which he strums with a pair of cast iron tongs. When wound, music plays, he turns his head side to side, and in circular motions, tongue sticks in and out, while strumming the skillet in which a turkey is basting. Condition: generally excellent, mechanism and music play well except tongue which needs adjustment. Marks: Bte SGDG Tete Jumeau 3 (and artist checkmarks). Comments: Roullet et Decamps, circa 1890. Value Points: delightful mechanical vignette amusingly depicts the antics of a happy chef, especially choice in original costume.

Seated on a brass link swing which suspends from the box lid, is a bisque head doll with blue glass eyes, open mouth, tiny teeth, blonde mohair wig, wooden block torso, spiral metal upper arms and legs, paper mache lower arms and legs, painted red stockings and brown shoes. She is wearing a pretty ivory silk dress with red detailing, and arranged around her a bounty of additional costumes, accessories, toiletries and little play toys. The case, which is covered with decorative papers and has a leather carrying handle, is designed to open from either or both sides. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: SH 10/0 dep (doll). Comments: for the French market, circa 1890. Value Points: beautifully-preserved presentation toy case, likely created for Paris department store Etrennes catalog, is a rare treasure.
