A Marquis Auction Weekend - May 4-5, 2019 in Morristown, New Jersey

Oh, My Stars and Garters! A Marquis Antique Doll Auction Featuring the Important Collection of Sharon Jerome • Saturday, May 4, 2019

Saturday, May 4, 2019 — In America we say “Oh, my goodness”, an expression of delight and astonishment. In England, the exclamation “Oh, my stars and garters!” has the same meaning. Yet more, too, because the historic roots of that English phrase date back centuries, referencing chivalry, royalty, and acclaim such as The Noble Order of the Garter, the highest heraldic honor that can be presented by the British monarch.

Both meanings are appropriate for the Sharon Jerome antique doll collection which will be of great delight and, also, worthy of the highest order. More than 300 important antique dolls, automata, doll accessories and miniatures are offered in this auction, including, appropriately early English wooden dolls. French fashion poupées feature prominently with a bevy of beautiful faces and rare bodies.

From another private collection comes Miss Willie Pearl’s doll, presented on the catalog cover, the very rare 208 art character with painted eyes from Kestner in a wonderful 24” size; an extremely rare doll, few examples are known to exist in this size. The doll has lived its entire life in Douglas, Georgia, until a few years ago in the family home of Miss Willie Pearl where she, also, lived her entire life. Also featured in the auction is a fascinating collection of dolls by the Bahr and Proschild firm of Germany. View schedule.
