Firmly-sculpted earthenware head with pronounced nose, bald pate, darkened ruddy complexion, painted brown eyes, closed mouth with row of painted teeth, well-defined ears, bald pate with sculpted curled sideburns and nape curls, padded armature body, earthenware sculpted hands and lower legs, very expressively-posed fingers. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Neopolitan, early 1800s, the grand size indicates a luxury commission, likely for exhibition. Value Points: superb state of preservation of the very rare grand-sized Neopolitan man with fine characterization and modeling of face and hands, wearing original costume including velvet jacket and intricately-woven leggings.
