American Porcelain Doll "Jo" by Martha Thompson

19" (48 cm.) Porcelain shoulderhead with heart-shaped face, brown sculpted hair drawn from her face into a double-coiled braided chignon at the back of head, blue hair band at the crown, blue glass inset eyes, painted lashes and brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, closed mouth, cloth body, porcelain lower limbs, painted white stockings with blue shoes, original costume. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 52 Jo MDT. Comments: Martha Thompson, 1952, from her series of Little Women dolls. Value Points: fine detail of sculpted coiffure. The doll was acquired by its present owner nearly 60 years ago from Mrs. Yeske and has remained in her possession until now.
