"One Thing Leads to Another" January 22-23, 2022 Marquis Auction

January 22-23, 2022 —

Marquis Antique Doll Auction.

In a recent interview, Walter Isaacson, the historian whose works have ranged from biographies of Ben Franklin to Leonardo da Vinci to Steve Jobs, was asked what characteristic is common is all geniuses. He said, without hesitation, “curiosity”.

Why things work, what could be different, why is this like that, and every other question one could ask about any topic, is the mark of a genius, he said. You start here, you wonder why, you ask a question, then think of something else and off you go on a new path. One thing just leads to another.

If this feels familiar it is because this is also the path of great collectors. You start out searching for one little thing. It sends you off on the quest for something kind-of, sort-of related. But then what about this? What about that? And off you go.

Theriault’s is privileged to be the “historians” of some of these great collections as they leave their cherished homes and coax the curiosity of other collectors. January 2022 Marquis auction features Part II of the Luann Guleserian Collection of California, the personal portrait dolls of the child film star Diana Serra Cary (“Baby Peggy”) and an outstanding collection of French dolls from a private Netherlands collector, as well as others. There are more than 500 wonderful antique and vintage dolls to be offered, and you are invited to enjoy the auction with a live audio/video presentation for both days.

If you would like to examine your favorite dolls prior to the auction, you can reserve a private video viewing. Or you can call the office to arrange an on-site viewing (mask will be required).

The 224-page full-color catalog with detailed descriptions of each lot can be ordered for $59. For more information or to order the catalog click here or call 410-224-3655.

There are many options for bidding including traditional absentee bidding, live telephone bidding, live internet bidding, and pre-bidding on internet. Collectors are invited to telephone Theriault’s customer service at 410-224-3655 or email info@theriaults.com. Appointments can also be made to remotely view specific lots prior to the auction.
