Paris has always held promise for those who yearned for its special quality. Strolling the boulevards, sidewalk cafes, the arts, the lights, the good red wine. If "making it" in New York meant success anywhere, the promise of Paris was simply living well. Those who visited did not come home empty handed. The glorious dolls from the golden age were largely made for the enthusiastic American traveler who bought armloads of treasures, including fine French bisque dolls, home. 20" (51 cm.). Hand-pressed pink-tinted porcelain
lady has cameo-shaped face with elongated throat,
black sculpted hair with centerpart and hair
drawn smoothly away from face, over the ears and
into a coiled bun at the back of the head,
painted facial features, shaded blue eyes, red
and black upper eyeliner, single stroke brows,
accented nostrils, closed mouth, old muslin
stitch-jointed body with pink-tinted porcelain
arms, pale green silk taffeta gown,
undergarments, leather boots. CONDITION:
Generally excellent. COMMENTS: Germany, circa
1850. VALUE POINTS: Rare early model with
wonderful characterlike expression featuring
emphasized eyelids and smiling expression.

15"h. (38 cm) The wooden framed dressing table or
toilette has nicely shaped legs, single drawer,
and heavy white marble top with rounded edges,
candle-shelves, very fancy high back with
centered mirror and carving. Excellent condition.

plumply modelled face, cobalt blue glass enamel
eyes with black outlined sockets, painted lashes,
feathered brows, accented nostrils and eye
corners, closed mouth with outlined lips,
unpierced ears, brunette mohair wig over cork
pate, kid fashion body with shapely waist,
stitched and separated fingers. CONDITION:
Generally excellent, kid repair on right wrist.
MARKS: 1. COMMENTS: Barrois, circa 1865. VALUE
POINTS: Outstanding original couturier-made
trousseau accompanies the doll, comprising the
costume worn by the doll of peach gown with lace
trim and long lace veil, undergarments, velvet
shoes, jewelry; along with purple velvet gown
with ivory satin banner, rich lace trim and long
train; sheer muslin three-piece gown of lavender
and cream stripes; cream linen and dark blue two-
piece gown with lace trim; ecru satin gown with
ivory satin and lace trim, long train; and
folklore style costume with laced velvet vest,
striped silk skirt and lace-edged apron. The six
costumes, of couturier quality, are entirely
original to the doll and in wonderfully preserved
condition.

Jumeau Medaille d'Or Paris (body). COMMENTS:

Outstanding original and unplayed with condition
of the perfectly preserved couturier model of
E.J. The doll wears her original maroon silk
twill and satin costume in perfectly preserved
condition, with lace and tassel trim, matching
bonnet with lace and flow-flow ribbons,
undergarments including chemise, petticoat,
pantalets, embroidered bebe corset, bustle,
burgundy woven stockings, burgundy leather shoes
with silk rosettes incised "E. Jumeau Med. d'or
Paris", maroon earrings and hair comb. and has
two original Bebe Jumeau labels (one on arm, one
on balayeuse as described in the advertisement of
the box "Les Bebes Jumeau habilles par la maison
doivent en porter la marque sur la balayeuse"
(the bebes Jumeau dressed by the firm must carry
the label on the dust ruffle of the dress). The
doll owns its original early Jumeau box and
shipping wooden box, and very rare early Jumeau
booklet "Histoire de la Poupee", published in
1885 featuring promotional illustrations and
stories about Bebes Jumeau. The completeness of
the doll and its costume is only rivaled by its
beauty and superbly preserved freshness.

21" H (53 cm). The dark-finished wooden cupboard
features an unusual shelf arrangement with glass-
door cupboard aside a two-shelved open
arrangement, above a lower glass door buffet.
Shaped with Art Nouveau styling, the cupboard is
upholstered in cream muslin printed with lavender
fleur-de-lis pattern and is originally fitted
with a doll's dinner service in creamy faience
decorated with lavender violets and green leaves,
including lidded tureen and glass goblets.

sculpted black hair arranged with little curls
framing the face and a wide coiled braid framing
the back of the head, painted facial features,
turquoise eyes, black upper eyeliner, single
stroke brows, aquiline nose, painted closed lips,
kid body with tiny waist and slender upper limbs,
left arm posed as though bent at elbow, wooden
lower arms and legs, chip-defined fingers.
