9" (23 cm.) The wooden cabinet features a hinged top with single drawer above a paneled cabinet door. The top hinges open for seating access on the chamber pot hole which is covered, when not in use, by another hinged lid. The sides of the seat are upholstered in padded homespun, and an opening drawer at the back provides access to the brass chamber pot for cleaning. The inside lid is stamped "V.W. Hamilton Patented June 1st, 1858". Excellent condition. The construction detail and maker's stamp indicate original production as salesman's sample of the furnishing. American, 1858.
