Bisque socket head, blue glass paperweight inset eyes, dark painted eye liner, lushly painted dark lashes, wide brush-stroked and feathered brows, accented eye corners and nostrils, closed mouth with defined space between the shaded and outlined lips, dimpled chin and lip corners, separately sculpted pierced ears, blonde mohair wig over cork pate. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Depose Tete Jumeau Bte SGDG 16 (head, and artist check marks) Bebe Jumeau Diplome d'honneur (body label). Comments: Emile Jumeau, circa 1886. Value Points: pristine unplayed with and all-original condition of the rare large size 16 bebe, having original beautiful soft mohair wig with ribbon, Jumeau earrings, Jumeau chemise with Bebe Jumeau gold lettered label, and her original size 16 Bebe Jumeau box. The bebe has flawless creamy bisque which enhances her unusual expression, and outstanding original body and body finish.

Standing upon a velvet-covered base with ebony wooden feet is a bisque headed troubadour having blue glass paperweight inset eyes, dark eyeliner, painted lashes, brush-stroked brows, accented nostrils, open mouth, outlined lips, four teeth, pierced ears, brunette mohair wig in flowing curls over cork pate, carton torso and legs, wire upper arms, bisque forearms, wearing original elaborate purple velvet costume with rich gilt trim, and holding a wooden mandolin. Condition: generally excellent, music and mechanism function well. Marks: Depose Tete Jumeau 2. Comments: Roullet et Decamps, circa 1890, the model appeared in their original catalog as #369 described as "Persan jouant la mandoline". Seated daintily upon a wooden stool on a red velvet -covered platform is a bisque-head lady with blue glass paperweight inset eyes, dark eyeliner, painted lashes and brows, rose blushed eye shadow, accented nostrils, closed mouth with outlined lips, pierced ears, brunette human hair hand-tied wig over cork pate, carton torso and legs, wire upper arms, bisque forearms, wearing original rose silk dress with elaborate petal and bead appliques and lace trim, with matching pom-pom trimmed slippers and hat. When wound, music plays, the lady moves her head up and down in a nodding fashion, then side-to-side, while moving the mandolin up and down in her left hand, and strumming the keys with her right; meaning her right leg moves up and down in time to the music. Condition: generally excellent, music and movements function wonderfully. Marks: 8 (head) L.B. (key). L. Lambert Fabricant ...(original gilt lettered red label on back along with colorful tune label). Comments: Leopold Lambert, circa 1890, one of the luxury pieces from his collection, with costume created in his own atelier under the direction of his wife. Value Points: all original automaton with gorgeous Jumeau bisque head, luxury original couturier costume, superb movements and music with gorgeous sound, and with rare original labels. 18" (46 cm.) A velvet-covered wooden stage presents a vignette of an elegant lady posed on a stool at her piano, ready for her performance. The lady has a bisque poupee head attributed to Gaultier, blue glass eyes, closed mouth, nicely painted features, pierced ears, blonde mohair flowing curls, carton torso and legs, metal hands, and is exquisitely costumed in silk and lace. The piano is of fine rosewood with ebonized finish borders and sides, bone and ebony spring-tension keys, and features shaped columns, ormolu two-arm candle holders and side handles, music sheet, and porcelain vase with silk flowers. When wound, the lady pianist moves in a realistic manner, turning and nodding her head as if alternating between reading the sheet music and watching her hands on the keys, while her forearms move sideways across the keyboard, and, independently up and down as her hands approach the keys. Meanwhile four operatic tunes emanate from a 52-note Swiss movement. The rear of the piano contains an access panel by which the mechanism may be viewed in action. Condition: generally excellent, well-functioning. Comments: Gustave Vichy, Paris, circa 1878, an early model from the illustrious firm, possibly created for, and exhibited at, the 1878 Universal Exhibition in Paris where Vichy exhibited his automata for the first time. Value Points: wonderfully-preserved luxury automaton whose fine quality of woods and piano keys enhance the realistic and complicated movements.
