All-cloth doll depicting George Washington, pressed and oil-painted facial features, blue painted narrow eyes with heavy eyelids, single-stroke brows, aquiline nose, closed mouth with strong lips and jaw, impasto thickly painted white hair that forms into a ponytail at the nape, cotton sateen body cover, stitch-jointed arms and legs, oil-painted hands and feet with defined fingers and toes, wearing factory-original blue and gold silk suit with lace jabot and cuffs, black stockings, shoes, tri-corn hat. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Chase doll (with logo image on leg).The Chase Stockinet Doll Made of Stockinet and Cloth... (original paper label on back). Comments: Martha Chase, late 19th century, the model may have been inspired by the centennial celebration of Washington's 1789 inauguration. Value Points: very rare doll with distinctive portrait sculpting that perfectly captures Washington's person, with most artistic painting of complexion, features and hair, fine original painting, original (restored) costume, and with three blue ribbon awards.

All-cloth doll with pressed and oil-painted facial features depicting an adult lady, dark brown impasto-painted hair shaped into a tight knot at the back of her head and defined by three ringlet curls at each side of her face and two curls at the sides of her forehead, blue painted eyes, red upper eyeliner, single stroke brows, strong nose, closed mouth with hint of a gentle smile, slender body with cotton sateen body cover, oil-painted arms and legs with stitch-jointing at shoulders, elbows, hips and knees, separately stitched thumbs, defined fingers, antique costume. All-cloth doll with pressed and oil-painted complexion, facial features and blonde hair that is styled in centerpart and with two extended braids onto her shoulders, painted small blue eyes with crisp white eyedots, black upper lashes, accented nostrils, closed mouth, blushed cheeks, sateen body, oil-painted limbs with stitch-jointing at shoulders, elbows, hips and knees, separately-stitched thumbs, antique dress and undergarments, stockings, shoes. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Martha Chase of Rhode Island, circa 1910, who introduced a series of dolls presumably based on storybook characters, this being "Little Nell" from the Dickens book, The Old Curiosity Shop; the series was unsuccessful and few examples were made. Value Points: very rare doll in impeccable original condition with beautiful painting and construction, notable delicate blushing of her complexion.

11"h. x 20"w. x 23"d. The finely-grained wooden cabinet of walnut veneers has carved edging and trim on the lid, frontispiece, and base, a marquetry inlay on the lid, and the original image on the hinged inner lid. The music box plays 18 3/4" discs, and has a double-comb movement, with zither attachment, deeply recessed into the case. The original front-winding crank is included, as are 11 original discs. Overall excellent original condition. Germany, circa 1900, the Fortuna model was made by both Ernst Malke and F.H. Oberlander of Leipzeig.

13"h. x 29"w. x 21"d. 30"h. storage cabinet. The hinged-lid mahogany table model music box has a carved frontispiece and sliding drawer for disc storage, along with a matching disc storage cabinet. It has original winding crank, double combs of 84 notes apiece and uses the specially patented 17 1/4" size projection-less music discs, of which there are 21 included. Excellent overall original condition of mechanism and cabinet, lacking one tooth on upper comb. Swiss, Mermod Freres of Ste-Croix, circa 1900.

Condition: generally excellent. Marks: S 7 H 1010 dep. Comments: Simon and Halbig, circa 1885. Value Points: rare closed mouth variation of the 1010 model, has original wig and body, choice bisque and expression, wearing well-detailed antique folklore costume.
