16" (41 cm.) All composition with socket head, brown sleep eyes, mohair lashes, open mouth, four teeth, dimpled cheeks, blonde mohair ringlet curled wig, five-piece body. Marks: Madame Alexander New York (cloth tag on costume). The doll is wearing her original pale orange organdy dress with brown edging on the ruffles, one-piece cotton slip and panties socks, shoes, and woven bonnet with brown edging. Near mint condition, slight eye fading. Madame Alexander, 1936, the dimple-cheeked doll was marketed as "Marcella", designed to capture the Shirley Temple market whose license was held by the competitive doll firm of Ideal, and is presented in her original early box indicating the costume color as orange.
